What started out as a promotional concert for Lady Antebellum’s album Own The Night turned into something much greater. Last night, at the KFC Yum! Center, Lady Antebellum put on a benefit concert, as well as a private performance for the Henryville prom. The band first had the idea to have high schools all over the nation submit videos and then have the fans vote for which high school they thought deserved Lady Antebellum to perform at their school prom.
Many schools submitted videos, but after hearing about the devastating tornado in Henryville, Silver Creek High School, along with several other schools, made videos asking Lady Antebellum to perform at Henryville. Overwhelmingly, Silver Creek’s video won. Along with a private concert for Henryville’s prom, there was also a benefit concert. At the concert both Henryville and Silver Creek students got free floor seating tickets.
Being my first time at the Yum! Center, I was in awe. The stadium, as well as the lighting and screens were incredible. Everything worked cohesively and was well worth the money. Although there was no opening acts, and the concert was only an hour and a half, it was the best concert I have ever been to. Every song they sang was theirs, and all were incredible. The band was very personable with the audience, and all stage changes were smooth and quick.
The best performance by far was “Hello World.” The song speaks of finding faith and hope in a mostly lost world. This message is exactly what Henryville has embodied as they struggled as an community and found hope in what they still have.
Lady Antebellum raised close to a $250,000 for Henryville, as well an additional donation of $50,000 from Lipton. Hillary Scott, female lead of Lady Antebellum said although money cannot replace what they lost, the band wants to be there for Henryville from now and into the future.
