Recently, girls’ head basketball coach Joe Voelker resigned. The Bagpiper interviewed him about his resignation.
Bagpiper: What has been the best part about coaching FC?
Voelker: “The best part has been working with the kids and being with this program.”
Bagpiper: What led you to this decision?
Voelker: “I have been a head coach for nine years and it wears on you. A lot of people don’t know how it is. Resigning kind of refreshes you.
Bagpiper: What team(s) that you have coached stands out?
Voelker: “The one two years ago where we went to semi-state stands out. Also, the very first team was enjoyable. That team was 16-6. They were a lot of fun and they were the most rewarding. The second team came out of no where and made it to the sectional championship game.”
Bagpiper: What is your proudest accomplishment individually?
Voelker: “When your win a game that you’re not expected to win, it’s a great accomplishment. We have been very competitive, especially when tournament games come around.”
Bagpiper: Is there anything else that we need to know?
Voelker: “It was a very tough decision to step down. I have been thinking about it for several years. I don’t know if I will be out permanently.”
