Teacher views on collective bargaining

The following were survey responses by FC teachers and faculty members regarding collective bargaining and teacher evaluation legislation in Indiana:

“Our pay is to be partially based on testing!! See comments by students! State-mandatory tests such as ISTEP kids say, ‘It means nothing. I don’t care about my score’.”

“My fear is the subjectivity and bias that can occur in the evaluations. Teachers are very open to collaborating and sharing lessons. What will happen when pays are based on successes?”

“Instead of going toward the extremes, we should be looking for a good compromise. No one will agree that some reform is needed, but the proposed change is ridiculous.”

“They need not to change anything.”

“Purely political maneuvering.”

“What I support is Indiana Education becoming a true team with the sole purpose to EDUCATE our kids! I’m sick of the fighting. Help kids!”

“Collective bargaining is the only way for teachers to have a say in working conditions, pay, and insurance.

“Our opinion is irrelevant. They will do what they want. The only person getting a raise is the superintendent.”

“The good employees should earn more than the bad employees!”
