Diverse activities provide opportunities to explore in Kentuckiana during spring break

By Delaney Smith and Sydney Sears

While many students are packing for their extravagant vacations, others are staying put this spring break. Though most stuck at home imagine it to be a dull and eventless break, there are many things to do at home in Kentuckiana.

Skyzone, located at 2671 Technology Drive, Jeffersontown Ky., is one option. It includes a giant room full of trampolines to jump on, along with other activities including the trampolines. The prices vary from $9.00 to 20.00.

Sophomore Tony Murphy has visited Skyzone.

“There is nothing really to compare it to; it is an experience all its own.”

Another option while at home during next week is to visit the walking bridge in downtown Louisville over the Ohio River. There is no cost, so this is preferable for anyone on a budget. Here you can do various activities along with walking including running and biking.

Junior Mikaela Click walked and took pictures of the sunset while visiting the walking bridge.

“I’d recommend it because it’s super rad and awesome,” said Click.

Downtown Louisville also has many options. The Louisville Science Center, located at 727 W. Main Street in Louisville, is a good place to go on a cold or rainy day. It is a fun and educational place that you can take  friends or siblings. It costs $13 for adults and $11 for children.

“I have been and it is a very fun place to go especially with friends. You learn and see a lot of cool and interesting things,” said sophomore Kailey Haydon.

One of the most talked about events over the break is the release of the first movie of the Divergent trilogy. Divergent premieres in theaters tonight.

“The Divergent movie is a great way to kick off spring break. It is going to be amazing,” said Haydon.

Along with all those options there are also many other things in the area such as, the Louisville Zoo, Earth and Fire Pottery, the YMCA and the many shopping malls in the area.

A Week in Guatemala: live blogging from McKenna Click

By McKenna Click

Editor’s Note: For the extent of Spring Break, the Bagpiper will be having photographer McKenna Click reporting on her experiences in Guatemala. Click will be updating on the events of Northside Christian Church’s youth mission trip to build houses in Guatemala.

It is currently 1:56 in the afternoon and I am preparing to leave on my first out of country mission trip. I am attending a mission trip to Guatemala with Northside Christian Church.  I am not the only FC student that is attending this mission trip.  In fact, on my flight (there are three flight groups) some familiar faces include; junior Baylie Burd, senior Kim Foster, junior Deja Jones, sophomore Kristina Foster, sophomore Austen Jones, and junior Trevor Smith.

This morning we were required to be at the airport no later than 12:40.  Once at the Louisville International Airport we formed a circle, prayed, then got checked in and made our way through security.

Right now we are currently waiting to board our first flight (we are the last group to leave) to Miami.  From Miami we  will fly to Guatemala, with a little over a two hour lay over in Miami.  Overall, the feeling here at the airport is that we are ready to fly already (as demonstrated by the amount of candy being thrown at other people right now.)

For now that is all I am going to write (it is a little hard to write when candy is being thrown at you) but I will check in later.

Columnist proposes dreary Spring Break movie solutions

By Christian DiMartino

Hopefully, just hopefully, Spring Break will be nice and fun, but hopefully not too much fun if you know what I mean. But the weather has been dreadful lately, and what is there left to do on such long, miserable days? Watch a movie. Or two. Or three. Maybe five will do. Here are five movies guaranteed to make your rainy day a better one.

5. Die Hard (1988) – Nobody knows about being trapped in a boring building for a day better than NY cop John McLane (Bruce Willis). But try being stuck in a building with a group of German terrorists taking hostages. Die Hard is basically a guy playing cat-and-mouse with a lunatic for two hours. But those two hours are quite an adventure. The presence of Willis and Alan Rickman (the bad guy) is key.

4. Airplane (1980) – Airplane is a comedy that simply never grows up, and that is what is awesome about it. Even with repeated viewings, it always remains consistently entertaining and hilarious. So why should a rainy day be an exception? It is dumb, possibly the dumbest movie of all. But it is guaranteed to slap a smile.

3. Back to the Future (1985) – This is the epitome of a rainy day movie. Back to the Future will be entertaining whether it is on an airplane, in a house, or in a Delorean, It is a smart, fun, and sort of creepy (the main character’s mom falls in love with him). But it is funny in the way that it is creepy. All it takes is a Huey Lewis song, and the mood to watch this movie will suddenly increase.

2. Titanic (1997) – Rainy days feel like the longest days. So it seems like the perfect time to commit to James Cameron’s big, romantic, three hour disaster epic. It is amazing how this film still has such an influence on us today. Cameron went on to make Avatar 12 years later, but that is not this movie. Titanic is groundbreaking for its time. It is big, it is adventurous, and it will and has left people talking for years. Titanic, we will never let go.

1. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) – Imagine the adventure that can happen on a sunny day. Well, it is supposed to be a rainy day, so that option is out. But instead, join Indiana Jones on his first and best adventure, which is arguably the best adventure of all. Raiders of the Lost Ark is the definition of adventure, and since this is a list of rainy day movies, no adventure will entertain more than this one. It is a sure thing.
