Homemade Facials

By Blake Dykes
Among the many things my friends and I complain about, the main one is how our faces look whether it is broken out, dry, or oily. Luckily, though, you can fix this by making your own homemade facials. For most people, sleep is hard to get. Besides the obvious, being tired and not focused, it can also leave dark circles under your eyes. Rather than smearing on tons of concealer, you can use more organic processes that actually solve the problem instead of covering it up.

Cucumbers have alpha hydroxy acids that help to get rid of dead skin cells and make the fresh skin under appear. Cucumbers also reduce swelling under the eyes, which makes this a great ingredient to eliminate dark circles.

Cucumber Facial
Combine ½ cups of peeled cucumber, one medium egg, ¼ tsp of lemon juice, ¼ tsp of lime juice, and three fresh mint leaves. Refrigerate for 20  minutes. After ingredients are cooled, lay completely flat and spread all over face. Leave on for 25 minutes, then rinse face.
Caution: Be sure to not get this in your eyes, as the acid from the lemon juice will sting.

Another way to eliminate dark circles is green tea. The caffeine in tea can help constrict blood vessels underneath skin. This can remove the purple-blue coloring.

Green Tea Facial
Using 2 tea bags, brew 1 ½ cups of tea. Allow tea to steep in and cool completely. Then remove tea bags and place in a plastic bag. After cooled refrigerate for an hour. Place over eyes and leave on until bags are no longer cold.
Tip: You can reuse the same tea bags three different times.
Warning: The only way for this facial to work is if the tea bags are completely cool.
Green tea is the only kind of tea that works for this effect.

Another common thing teens suffer from is acne. Even though acne is a natural part of most people’s lives, it does not mean that there are not natural ways to cure it.

Lemon, green apples, grapefruit, and  oranges are all very acidic. The acid in these ingredients help clear up acne and acne scars. Egg whites gets deep down into pores and cleans them. Baking soda narrows pores making them less noticeable. Oatmeal cleans and smoothes face.

Together, all these ingredients make for a very beneficial facial.
Pick one of the fruits listed above and cut in half. Then combine with two beaten egg whites, 1 ½ tsp of baking soda, ½ tsp of water. Refrigerate for 10 minutes. While mixture is refrigerating, make one cup of oatmeal using the Quaker oats and the recipe given on the box. One oatmeal is made, allow to cool. After the fruit ingredients have been cooled spread over face and leave for 15 minutes. After time is up, wash face off and apply oatmeal. Leave oatmeal on face for approximately 7 minutes. Lastly, wash face thoroughly.

Another unattractive problem that can occur is itchy, oily, dry skin.

Egg yolk, honey, yogurt, and olive oil are all ways to cure this. Egg yolk removes itch from skin. Honey has substances in it that help remove dead skin cells and help stimulate growth for new cells. Yogurt moisturizes and cleanses skin. Olive oil softens skin.

Egg Yolk Facial
Mix together one egg yolk, ¼ cup of plain organic yogurt, ½ tbs of olive oil, and one tbsp of honey. Stick in refrigerator for 15 minutes. Then rub on face and leave for 20 minutes.

Note: These routines can be repeated twice a week and may not have an immediate effect.
Warning: Before any of these facials can be applied, face must be washed off and cleaned.
