The Highlander Outfitters may be one of the most under-the-radar aspects of FC. Located in the spine, the Highlander Outfitters store is full of merchandise to fulfill students’ school spirit needs.

FC’s business management class, taught by Chris Street, is in very high demand. With a maximum enrollment capacity of 28, Street accepted 35 students into the class. The class, which meets fourth period, operates the store.

“[The class] teaches them how a business operates, how to work with coworkers and classmates. They exhibit a lot of individual personality,” said Street. Being in business management means that students will be getting the hands-on experience of having their own business by working at Highlander Outfitters.

Students working at the store say they are learning real-world skills. “It will prepare someone to be financially capable of owning their own business,” said sophomore Amy McCormick.

Business management is also a way for students to acquire a more in-depth understanding of financing.

“We pretty much sell the merchandise, take inventory, learn about finance and how to handle a business,” said McCormick.

It is evident in the amount of money that the store makes that the students’ hard work is paying off.

“The store makes a lot of revenue. We made $25,000 last year,” said junior Hannah Merk.

Highlander Outfitters sells a variety of merchandise supporting FC. The prices range from a $5 water bottle to a $40 windbreaker.

“Crew neck sweatshirts are my favorite item because they’re cozy and don’t choke you,” said McCormick.

The Outfitters store offers sweatshirts, sweatpants, T-shirts, crew neck shirts, hoodies, jackets, polos, and much more. In the upcoming weeks the Outfitters store may also offer a new drawstring backpack.

Although the final decision is made by Street, student input on designs is highly important. Street said they try to offer new products every semester.

“There isn’t a lot of advertising going on; we attend all sporting events and extracurricular activities to get the products out there as much as possible,” said Street.

Students, parents, and faculty interested in merchandise can stop by the Highlander Outfitters every Thursday and Friday during lunch and at all sporting events. In addition, Street said the Highlander Outfitters will soon be on Facebook as well.

Ask Alexandra about mens formal wear!

“When choosing formal wear, what colors are best?”

 -Senior Hunter Hartman

Dear Hunter,

Men’s formal wear can be tricky, but I have a few helpful tips for you. Make sure that your clothes are fitted correctly, a baggy suit or tux could make you seem sloppy or unorganized. Also you should make sure your socks match, and your belt and shoes should match as well for a classy look. Shoes should always be in the best condition possible. Pants should hit right at the ankle, and your socks should never be visible when sitting down. You should be able to sit or cross your legs comfortably while still looking like you have proper fitting attire. If you need someone to help tie your tie, a good friend or family member is great to have around for extra help. A tie is too small if it stops in the middle of your abdomen. YouTube videos are also extremely helpful if you are not sure on how to tie a tie. As far as colors for formal wear go, limit yourself to wearing no more than three colors at a time. The colors in your outfit should be complementary or analogous. Complimentary colors opposite each other on the color wheel. Analogous colors are the colors adjacent to each other. Color wheels can easily be found on the internet. Hopefully that helped!

Your fashionable friend,

How can I wear my summer clothes in the winter?

-Sophomore, Cheyanne Taylor

Dear Cheyanne,

I am so glad you asked how to wear transform your summer looks into fall and winter looks! It’s a great question that I am sure people other than just you are curious about. If you wore boots with bohemian or baby-doll dresses this summer, those would be an obvious pieces to tie into your winter wardrobe. Scarves and tank tops, believe it or not, are also a great choice. To make your tank tops transfer, think layers. If there is one thing you get from this answer it is that! Layering is key, especially with scarves and other accessories as big as they are for this season. Cover up with fly-away sweaters, cardigans, denim, or leather jackets. Wear your favorite plaid or oxford shirt under a hood-less sweatshirt for a comfy-chic look. Add statement jewelry and a messy up-do so that you do not come across as over-thinking your outfit. For extra warmth, wear leggings under jeans, or socks with heeled booties. You can still wear your favorite summer dresses by adding tights and a cute t-shirt underneath. Military style is really big right now as well, so I would invest in what I call “band” jackets that look great over a roomy-tank and worn with your best skinnies. Personally, I love blazers right now too, so before it gets too cold you could try a neutral blazer with denim shorts and some comfy gladiator sandals. I hope this helped, and keep reading ‘Couture in the country’ in the FCHS Bagpiper for more style questions answered!
