Highlanders face off against Pioneers tonight
By Eric Ordonez and Luke Geraghty
As the football team prepares for its second game of the season tonight against local rival Providence Pioneers, the buzz around nearly every hallway seems to be about how excited fans and staff members are to be a part of it.
After last Friday’s 28-21 victory over Male in the season opener, the team is riding high with plenty of confidence and energy. Providence, who is looking for revenge after last year’s 25-13 loss to FC, looks to steal a road victory tonight at Ron Weigleb Stadium. Head coach Brian Glesing said this is a statement game and is ready for the grind tonight.
“I hope it’s exciting. This is Friday night high school football, it doesn’t get any better than this,” said Glesing.
What concerned Glesing in the opener was the special team’s play and the lack of quality tackling.
“Too many defensive breakdowns, that we’re going to have to fix right away,” said Glesing.
However, Glesing acknowledged how well the offensive line played and their ability to move the ball late in the game.
The Pioneers come into the game with some changes of their own.
“They [Providence] have a new coaching staff that we’ve prepared for. We’ve prepared to cover their outside sweep game, and also know they’re going to try to run it inside on us,” said Glesing.
The kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the theme is a green-out for FC fans.
Fairgoers flock to try the new and bizarre creations at the state fair

The Krispy Kreme Donut Bacon Cheese Burger is another attention-grabbing food booth. It is essentially one glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut, lettuce, tomato, onion, hamburger patty, cheese, bacon, and finally another Krispy Kreme doughnut. This multi-meal snack packs in a near 1,500 calories.
“We try to bring new items to the fair every year. Last year it was the donut burger, this year it’s the buffalo chicken donut sandwich. We also have the fried Kool-Aide and the fried Derby Pie,” said Krispy Kreme booth employee Don Kenna.
Kenna also said that he feels the Donut Burger appeals to fair-goers the most because it is a good product with great advertising.
High prices were an issue at the fair for some. With a $10 entrance fee for adults and an eight dollar parking fee, some people are hesitant to purchase anything else.
“I went to get a lemonade shake up and it was six dollars. It wasn’t worth it,” said junior Matthew Langdon.
The fair will be open until Sunday, Aug. 28. Traditional fair rides, agricultural exhibits, dog shows, concerts, games, and much more will be featured.

Theatre puts on encore performance of ‘E.A. Poe’ this weekend
“Performing at the festival was really cool. We liked it because we performed in front of a small crowd and it made us appreciate what we have at home. An average size audience was eight people. Even though it was small, you realize that being there you were a part of something much bigger,” said junior Laura Duncan.
The audience should expect to be entertained with the dark visual world Poe described through his poetry. Duncan described the play as being a collection of the words trippy, mysterious, and suspenseful.
“Due to the rather macabre nature of Poe’s works, we have requested that young children be discouraged from attending. This would be sure to cause nightmares,” said Bundy.
“E.A. Poe is one of the most famous poets, and people are still wondering about his life and how he died,” said sophomore Shelby Clark.
The cast is hoping that the play embodies his life and honors it in a way that only Poe would want it, mysterious and twisted.
“I think it’s unique in that while many adaptations have been made of Poe’s stories, I wanted to approach the show with a look at what actually happened in his life that might have influenced his morbid fascination. We get a look at his actual life which drifts in and out of his fantasy world. By the way, the show was a collaboration between myself and a former student who is a playwright, Jason Roseberry,” Bundy explained.
The ticket price for all students will be $5,”E.A. Poe…. Into The Mind of Madness,” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. this Friday and Saturday. Come get a glimpse into the mind of the mad.
